"We knew that our little garden needed a make over we just didn’t know what, how and who would do it. Fortunately, we met Nick and Doug. During our first conversation I already had more of an idea of what I wanted and didn’t want – they are very good at that!
We swiftly came to a design which was simple, practical and gave us what we needed; a cooking area, seating area and some soft green space. Doug and Nick chose all the plants and we trusted their decisions. There were many other decisions along the way for which we took their advice and suggestions. We were away for the last two weeks of the work and when we returned it was non-stops ‘wows!’ We now have a whole new room in the house which we all love. We are very grateful to Nick, Doug and the landscaping team for the transformation of our garden which will give us pleasure for many years to come." - Noreen & Fawad, W5
This design is a great example of an outdoor room, which was exactly what the lovely clients of this garden wanted. They wanted a garden that felt like an extension of their gorgeous kitchen diner, and with the bi-fold doors open it now feels like one big beautiful space.

The garden has an area of lawn as you enter, with a terrace that runs the entire width of the garden at the rear. The terrace has an open dining area as well as an impressive covered pergola that has a BBQ and fridge. The client is a very keen BBQ cook and the state-of-the-art Everdure by Heston Blumenthal BBQ is like a dream come true!

As seen in the photo above, the Pergola is heated, as is the dining terrace, which allows for year-round outdoor entertaining. The pergola was designed to accommodate the dining table during the colder winter months or if the weather was a little inclement.
The dining area (above) has two impressive low energy halogen heaters which are remote controlled allowing for total flexibility.

The planting of this garden also reflected the fact that this is very much a garden for cooking and entertaining in. As well as a selection of herbs, there are fan-trained plum and cherry trees in both beds to the left and right of the lawn area.

The dining terrace rear bed is planted with mainly evergreen plants and shrubs (left) and there is a large terracotta pot (right) at its centre planted with a multi-stemmed Silver Birch. The blue feature wall creates the perfect backdrop for the plants and will also really ‘lift’ the garden during those dull winter days.

As with all our designs, our gardens always ensure that the plants provide colour and interest for 12 months of the year. In the pergola border (above) there is a varied choice of foliage forms and shapes as well as seasonal colour.
